This typographic approach builds upon the previous iteration of Cuyahoga Valley Church’s brand identity, incorporating Gotham alongside two robust families—FF Good Pro and Guyot. In use, this trio of typefaces enables a rich typographic hierarchy.
Good Pro, designed by FontFont, is an incredibly robust gothic font family—comprised of 198 total styles when including both FF Good and FF Good Headline.
FF Good works well as a first level of typographic hierarchy—effective for large headlines and “big type moments,” scaled generously and tracked in tight. Compressed, condensed, and extended weights are especially appropriate for establishing effective contrast when also incorporating Gotham.
Archivo by Omnibus Type is another extremely robust grotesque font family. This typeface is available for free download from Google Fonts and is a suitable alternative to FF Good Pro for day-to-day use by the Cuyahoga Valley Church team should purchase from FontFont or licensing via Adobe Fonts not be preferable.
Guyot by ReType is a type family inspired by the work of the punchcutter François Guyot, who lived and worked in Antwerp during the sixteenth century. Its three families, Guyot Headline, Text, and Press, make it a very versatile choice for headlines and body copy.
This is CVC’s new primary brand typeface and should be implemented in a prominent way as the first or second level of typographic heirarchy, supported and complemented by Good and Gotham.
Unsurprisingly, Guyot Headline should be used on CVC materials for headlines, and Guyot Text should be used on branded materials for paragraphs of text.
Newsreader by Process Type is a particularly appropriate substitute for Guyot, as both typefaces are inspired by and designed for news press settings.

It’s hard to overstate the utility of Gotham by Hoefler & Frere–Jones, one of the most historically popular geometric sans-serif typefaces in use today.
Gotham was formerly the main (and only) brand typeface at CVC, used for all of the main brand marks. This typeface should now be used as a second or third level of typographic hierarchy to convey tertiary information.
Set in heavier weights, capitalized, and tracked out generously, Gotham is effective for subheads, labels, and navigation.
In text settings Gotham is also excellent for conveying captions and supporting information like web addresses, contact info, and descriptions.
Candidly, Montserrat is known by designers as “free Gotham.” It’s a suitable alternative, especially in headline settings. Its character width is slightly wider than Gotham, so the differences are more noticeable in paragraphs.
